How to Get to Bukchon Hanok Village

How to get to Bukchon Hanok Village: which Anguk Station exit to take, walking routes from Anguk and Gyeongbokgung, and the tour-bus drop-off points.

Updated November 2026

Take the subway to Anguk Station on Line 3. Seoul’s 2025 tourist guidebook puts Bukchon Hanok Village near Exit 2, about a 10-minute walk; Exit 3 is the one for the Bukchon Traditional Culture Center and for Changdeokgung, each about 5 minutes away. A walking route planner gives 683 metres from Anguk Station to the south end of Bukchon-ro 11-gil, the lane the red zone is named after, about 9 minutes. Time the walk so that you are in the red zone between 10:00 and 17:00, the hours Jongno-gu allows tourists there.

Which Anguk exit

Exit numbers depend on where in Bukchon you are going, so name the place first.

Walking distances from Anguk Station

A walking route planner gives these routes from Anguk Station’s position on the map; from a particular exit the walk can be a little longer or shorter. Visit Seoul, for example, gives 410 metres from Exit 3 to the Bukchon Traditional Culture Center, where the planner gives 286 metres from the station.

From Gwanghwamun Gate, Gyeongbokgung’s main gate, the planner gives 1.3 km on foot to the south end of Bukchon-ro 11-gil, about 18 minutes, and 1.0 km to Anguk Station. That makes the palace and Bukchon an easy pair on foot, as long as you leave the palace in time to be in the red zone before 17:00. Gyeongbokgung is closed on Tuesdays. Bukchon and Gyeongbokgung in one day puts the two in order.

From Myeongdong and the rest of Seoul

Whichever line you start on, the stop for Bukchon is Anguk on Line 3. If you would rather not change trains, VIP Travel's bus-and-walk tour picks up at Myeongdong Station Exit 9 at 08:50 (Itaewon Station Exit 1 at 08:20, City Hall Station Exit 6 at 09:00), spends an hour in Bukchon Hanok Village as part of a 3.5-hour tour and ends back at Myeongdong Station. It was from $30 per person, checked November 2026. Bukchon is its first stop after those pickups, so ask the operator when the group reaches the red zone, which is open to tourists from 10:00.

By tour bus or coach

Since 1 January 2026 charter buses may not drive on Bukchon-ro, Bukchon-ro 5-gil, Bukchon-ro 4-gil or Changdeokgung 1-gil at any time. Jongno-gu set three drop-off points instead:

  • in front of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, on Samcheong-ro,
  • opposite Changdeokgung,
  • near the west gate of Tapgol Park.

Jongno-gu puts each 10 to 30 minutes on foot from Bukchon. From the museum, the route planner gives 644 metres to the south end of Bukchon-ro 11-gil, about 9 minutes.

With a guide, from Anguk

If you would like the walk from the station to come with the stories, the 2-hour storytelling walk has two starting points by option, and its route opens at Anguk Station Exit 4, by Unhyeongung. The guide grew up in Bukchon, the group is limited to 10, and a 30-minute traditional handicraft class is included; coffee or tea, hotel pickup and travel insurance are not, and it is not suitable for children under 12. It was from $52 per person, checked November 2026, with free cancellation up to 24 hours before.

Powerd by GetYourGuide

The calendar above is the storytelling walk: pick a date and a start time that keep you in the red zone between 10:00 and 17:00.

Two other experiences start close to Anguk: Artee Pedicab's private 2-hour ride from 164 Anguk-dong, and a kimchi class in a hanok in Bukchon, about 10 minutes on foot from Anguk Station.
